Avatars in teaching
I have just been looking at creating avatars recently. I think they are great because they give people who aren't necessarily great artists the chance to develop realistic portraits of characters they have created. How fun would it be to get students to do character description this way! Create a character, write a character description, then move on to story writing, and put it all on a blog. This would be very engaging for students of most ages, and blogs would allow them to view each other's work, making more authentic audiences.

Hi Betina
I really like Avatars too! I agree if you are not really artistic it gives you the feeling that you have creativity to 'create' characters. I have been using them as a part of my Assignment 2 with the children and the engagement is very rewarding. They have created some wonderful characters and have added the voice dimension, reporting on Sustainable practices. They had to first write scripts, edit and perform before they were allowed access to creating final Voki. I did let them create character minus voice first. The work they have produced has been excellent and i would recommend any one try with students of various levels. I guess it links up with site like Second Life where I get lost Immediately but it is like a new persona. I always make myself beautiful. One can always dream. I also like to create ones that look like my students and have challenged my students to do the same. It is remarkable to see how well they do. I have used it for Literacy, Religion, Social emotional Programs intergraded studies. My students willingly go home to extend their work.
Sounds very cool. I thinking I will use them with my class for creative writing next term. At the moment I am using storyboarding to create retells of Maori Legends which students will then turn into Kidpix presentations with audio, as a form of oral tradition with images. Its my hope that they will be publishing them to a blog in the next month or so. I think anyway of allowing students to publish their artistic creations is invaluable.
I get pleasure from, cause I found just what I used to be having a look for. Please check link 192.168.254.254 to know more information
